Ralph "Wayne" Raffety

Ralph "Wayne" Raffety, Cushing resident, passed away on Tuesday, August 25, 2009 in the Hillcrest Medical Center in Tulsa at the age of 88 years.

The son of the late Steve Roy Raffety and Gay Robb Raffety, Wayne was born on June 21, 1921 in Cushing and was raised by his father and step-mother, Evelyn.

He graduated from Cushing High School in 1939, after 12 years of perfect attendance.

Wayne was united in marriage to Dolores Fisher on October 23, 1946 in Winfield, KS and to this union two children, Marilyn and Phyllis, were born.

He served in the United States Army Air Corp as an air traffic controller, and was recognized by the President of The United States for his services.

His job in the oilfields led him to Texas where he owned and doperated a tank cleaning business. After retirement he moved back to Cushing, where he owned and operated the Outback, as he was never ready to retire. He enjoyed working until recent years.

He enjoyed fishing, spending time with his family and visiting with friends.

Survivors include his wife of over 62 years, Dolores, of the home; two daughters, Marilyn Pendleton and her husband Pete of Idaho and Phyllis Towry Martin and her husband Allan of Cushing; five grandchildren, Melissa and Wesley Pendleton, C.W., Stephen Towry and William and Rachelle Towry; 4 great-grandchildren, Jordan, Kyle and William Pendleton and Kayla Towry, and other relatives and friends.

In addition to his parent and step-mother, he was preceded in death by one sister Ola Bryant.

Memorial services will be held on Monday, August 31, 2009 at 11:00 A.M. in the Fairlawn Cemetery with Pastor Kevin Clouse officiating.
