Phyllis Jean [Hanson] Hart
February 19, 1935 ~ May 29, 2019


Phyllis Jean [Hanson] Hart,84, passed away unexpectedly at her home in Stillwater on May 29, 2019. Celebration of life will be on Wednesday, June 5, 2019 at 10:30 AM at Dighton-Marler Chapel. Visitation will be 9AM to 8PM Tuesday, June 4, 2019 at the funeral home. Family will greet guests from 6PM to 8PM.

Phyllis was born February 19, 1935 in McPherson, Kansas. She spent many wonderful years growing up there with her mother Clara Jansena [Hanson] Burgess, her grandparents, Maurice and Mabel Hanson and family.

She and Donald Leroy Petersen, Sr. were married in 1950. They were blessed with five children, Bonita, Cheryl, Donald, Jr., Mike, Joyce.

In 1977, she married Alfred Eugene Hart. Together the shared 19 years together. He preceded her in death in 1996.

She worked 25 at OSU as a postal supervisor until her retirement in 1995.

Phyllis was a member of First United Methodist Church. She was very active and enjoyed participating in a sewing and luncheon club, recently named the Serenity Club, that met at St. Francis Catholic Church.

In 2017 Phyllis was recognized as the oldest living member of the "Women of the Moose.""

Her family was very special to her. She loved spending time with them. Making memories that would never fade. She also enjoyed camping, cross stitching, and collecting Jim Shores Angel figurines.

Survivors include her three daughters, Bonita Rhamy and husband Tommie of Huntington, AR., Cheryl Palladino and husband Guy of Stillwater, OK., and Joyce Altman and husband David of Perkins, OK.; one son, Mike Petersen of Stillwater, OK.; one daughter-in-law, Jeannie Petersen of Ripley, OK.; two brothers, Norman Burgess and wife Debbie of Inman, KS., and Dennis Burgess of McPherson, KS.; nine grandchildren, Eric Altman, Ryan Altman, Chris Palladino, Peter Palladino, Tedra Hudson, Marc Petersen, Jamie Petersen Carter, Bryan Rhamy, and Jake Petersen; eight great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Clara [Hanson] Burgess; husband, Alfred Eugene Hart; brother, Maurice Burgess; son, Donald Leroy Petersen, Jr.
