The daughter of the late Jesse E. Cates and Lizzie L. Carter Cates, Katy was born on February 2, 1927 in Garwood, MO, coming to Oklahoma as a small child and was raised and educated in the Cushing area, graduating from Cushing High School.

Katy had worked in Tulsa prior to working for Holmes Hardware and Oliver Shoes.

Her priority in life was her family, being a homemaker, mother and grandmother.

Katy was a longtime member of the Council Valley Baptist Church, where she was very dedicated. She was responsible for starting the Operation Christmas Child in her church.

She enjoyed sewing, gardening and baking. She loved to have flowers and would plant them anywhere, growing anything she could find beauty in.

Survivors include one daughter, Denise McNeil and her husband Brian of Cushing; four sons, Jim Harrison and his wife Debbie, John Harrison and his wife Miriam, Tim Harrison and his wife Pam and Scott Harrison and his wife Teresa all of Cushing; her sisters, Opal Skinner Gayhart of Yale, Lorene Franklin of Tulsa, Syliva Meyerdirk of Bartlesville, Ernestine Pershing of Stillwater and Rosalie Goins of North Carolina; eight grandchildren, Tammy Robinson and her husband Kenny, Brian Harrison and his wife Whitney, Tim Harrison and his wife Alicia, Melissa Harrison, Chrissy McCutchen and her husband Brian, Mindy Meson and her husband Marcos, Kati Jones and her husband Tim and Cody Vaden; ten great grandchildren, Kayla Boos, Dustin Boos, Maycee Harrison, Nick Larson, Aubrey Larson, Cade McCutchen, Gannon McCutchen, Maddox McCutchen, Gavin Meson and Brody Jones and one soon to be great-grandchild, Blakely Kate McCutchen; several nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

Her life was devoted to faith, family and her friends.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by one brother Vivan Cates; sisters Juanita Kirkpatrick and Irene Pack and an infant sister Audrey.

Funeral services will be held Monday, Oct. 4, 2010 at 2 P.M. in the Council Valley Baptist Church with Pastor Larry Lehr officiating.

Burial will follow in the Euchee Valley Memorial Park Cemetery.
