© Stillwater Democrat Journal Stillwater, Oklahoma Reprinted with Permission Wednesday, August 31, 2016 Mary Ruth [Willsey] Thurmond September 30, 1950 ~ August 28, 2016 Mary Ruth Thurmond was born on September 30, 1950, in Pryor, Oklahoma, to William Frank and Ruthie Naomi [Ragsdale] Willsey. She departed this life on Sunday, August 28, 2016, in Pryor, Oklahoma, at the age of 65 years, 10 months, and 29 days. Mary graduated with the Pryor High School class of 1968. She attended college for some time at NEO A & M in Miami, Oklahoma. She was a lifetime resident of Mayes County, having lived in Pryor for some time, as well as Salina for the past 8 years. Mary had worked for the Cherokee Nation Welcome Center in Kansas, Oklahoma as a cashier. She had also worked for the Grand River Dam Authority for some time. On June 13, 2009, Mary and Roger L. Thurmond were united in marriage. Mary was currently attending The Gathering Church in Adair, Oklahoma. She had previously been a part of the Exciting Southeast Baptist Church at Sportsman Acres near Pryor, Oklahoma. Mary loved to attend Bible study groups. She enjoyed quilting, knitting and reading. She loved to talk to and help people whenever possible. Mary would tell anyone, that the best thing that happened to her, was meeting her husband, Roger. She will be missed by all that knew and loved her. Mary is survived by: her husband Roger of the home; three children: Frank Conner and wife Shelly of Locust Grove, Oklahoma, Tammy Pittenger and husband Al of Pryor, Oklahoma, and Tim Oberkramer and wife Billie of Pryor, Oklahoma; seven grandchildren; one sister: Phyllis Statham and husband Allan of Pryor, Oklahoma; lifelong friend: Diana L. Newton of Dallas, Texas; numerous other relatives and a host of friends. Mary was preceded in death by: her parents; one daughter-in-law: Twilla Ann [Thomas] Conner; one uncle: Leroy Ragsdale; and her cousin: Mike Ragsdale. Funeral services were held 2:00 P.M., Tuesday, August 30, 2016 at Locust Grove Funeral Home Chapel in Locust Grove, Oklahoma. Pastor Josh Greer officiated. Interment followed at the Elm Grove Cemetery in Rose, Oklahoma. Services were entrusted to the Locust Grove Funeral Home.
