Roy C. Grider, 86, passed away on December 28, 2017 at his farm home outside Perkins, Oklahoma.Funeral services will be held at 2:00 Saturday, January 6th at the First Baptist Church in Perkins with Pastor Marty Voelker officiating. Burial will follow at Elm Grove Cemetery.

Roy was born September 30, 1931 in Murray County, Oklahoma, to Pinkie Ellen Cox Grider and Marvin A. Grider. He graduated from Sulphur High School, then earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Animal Science at Oklahoma A&M College [OSU]. It was while working his way through college that his boss, Bill Kimbrell, set him up on a blind date with Bill’s relative, Delsa Ann Fletcher. Roy married her on September 5, 1953 in Granite, Oklahoma. This union lasted nearly 64 years until Delsa’s death in April.

Roy was inducted into the Army at Ft. Benning, Georgia in 1953, and served as a Lieutenant in the 82nd Airborne Division until he was honorably discharged at Ft. Lee, Virginia in 1957. His first son was born while he served at Ft. Bragg, North Carolina.

Returning to Oklahoma, Roy and Delsa bought their farm and started a dairy. Roy pursued a master’s degree at OSU until the birth of his other son provided an excuse to avoid writing a thesis. In 1965, Roy began work as a loan officer at Production Credit Association in Chandler. He later managed the PCA office in Pawhuska, before finishing his Ag credit career at National Livestock Credit in Oklahoma City, retiring in 1996.

The dairy herd was sold in 1978, and Roy continued in livestock and crop production with his sons.

Roy is preceded in death by his beloved Delsa; his parents; four brothers, Frank, Silas, Oscar, and J.T. Grider.

He is survived by his sons, Wayne [Sandi] and Glen [GayLynn], three grandchildren, Krissa Rains, Brent [Sara] Grider, and Adam Grider; six great grandchildren, Krissa’s Zachary, Ryan and Dakota; Brent’s Brandon, Dillan and Brooklyn, and by many nieces and nephews.
