Mary Francis [Munser] Burton
October 11, 1914 ~ June 12, 2013


Francis Burton, 98, passed away June 12, 2013 in Guthrie, Oklahoma. Her Memorial service will be at 10:00 a.m., Sunday, June 16, 2013 at Strode Funeral Home Chapel, Stillwater, Oklahoma. Pastor Vanoy Fitch will officiate. Burial will be at 10:00 a.m., Monday, June 17, 2013 at Elm Grove Cemetery, Perkins, Oklahoma. Strode Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mary Francis (Minser) Burton was born on October 11, 1914 to William and Mary [McCartney] Minser in Minatare, Nebraska. She moved with her family to Oklahoma where she completed high school, and proceeded to Southwestern Junior College in preparation for elementary teaching.

She began her teaching career in Bartlesville, Oklahoma in a Seventh-day Adventist elementary school. During this time she had met, fallen in love with, and married Ira V. Burton of Perkins, Oklahoma, in May 1938. They returned to Perkins to the Burton family farm March 15, 1948, and Francis became immersed in the serious business of raising three sons and working outside the home to help support the family. She was a long time and active member of the Stillwater Seventh-day Adventist Church, providing music and assisting in leadership for many years.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ira, in 1973; her parents, William and Mary Minser; and her sisters, Roma Syfert and Elizabeth Kunsman.

She is survived by her three sons, Bill Burton and wife Faye of Perkins, Mike Burton and wife Judy of Yucaipa, California, and Bob Burton and wife VirLynn of Colton, Californaia; ten grandchildren; thirteen great grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and friends.

Memorial contributions may be made to The Stillwater Seventh-day Adventist Church at 3823 W. 19th, Stillwater, Oklahoma, 74074.
