Christopher Lynn "Chris" Cox

January 9, 1975 - June 20, 2025

Christopher Lynn "Chris" Cox, 50, passed from this life on Thursday, June 19, 2025, at the Bristow Hospital.

Chris Cox was born on January 9, 1975, in Wagoner, Oklahoma, to James and Nora Cox. Chris grew up in the Terlton, Oklahoma area with his brother, Jerome and sister, Jennifer. They spent the better part of their childhood outside snake hunting, catching perch in the creek and just roaming the land taking in the outdoors. They always had to stay within ear shot of the horn honking as their mom would honk 3 times to alert it was time to come home. He attended Terlton schools from Kindergarten through 6th grade, where he played basketball, competed in track meets and enjoyed the small school life. Chris attended Cleveland schools from seventh grade until he was done. He enjoyed playing football while attending school in Cleveland. His team referred to him as "biggin" as he was the biggest guy on the team.

Chris and Paula welcomed their son, Christopher W. "Marvin", who was born in July of 2002. He loved his son and his grandson, Asher Blake Cox. Chris was always a protector of anyone he cared for especially his momma and sister who he referred to as "sissy". If anyone ever said anything cross about either one of them he wouldn't hesitate to put that person in his place even if that meant throwing hands and getting suspended from school.

Chris had a big heart but was a little on the mischievous side. He often would tell the stories of his sissy having slumber parties and he would wake up with his finger nails and toe nails painted by her and her friends. He didn't care though he would wear it proudly for a very short time. He loved to hunt deer, turkey, and other game, especially if he was with his dad, son or any other family member or close friend. He also loved to take people on their first hunt or to noodle for the first time. You knew if you got a phone call early in the morning from him during deer season you would hear him yell "CHAWBAG" that meant he got him one. When it came to fishing, Chris loved catching fish. He often would describe catching crappie Chilly Willy style but wouldn't share his location with anyone. Sometimes he would use a pole to catch bass, catfish, or crappie, and other times he would just throw his hand down the throat of a catfish and let it grab a hold; otherwise known as "Noodling." He would often take his sissy with him noodling but she wouldn't stick her hand in the hole but he would make her put her feet in the exit holes to stop the fish from escaping. He would just say don't move they won't bite too hard if they do just don't let them out. Marvin said he will never forget the day his dad snuck him out on his bass boat when he was supposed to be grounded. They went out on keystone and caught the most bass they have ever caught in one day. Then at the very end of the day, Marvin hooked into what is still now his biggest bass he has ever caught. Since he was grounded Chris said he needed to be the one who took a picture that way Marvin didn't get caught or in trouble. The adventures that he went on with his brother, sissy, son and friends were endless growing up and memories that those still here will cherish for years to come.

Chris was a welder by trade and worked for multiple companies in the manufacturing business. Chris had to go on disability about fifteen years ago after his leg was amputated. Over the last few years, Chris has faced numerous struggles.

He had a good sense of humor. Chris's smile was infectious and he had the biggest heart. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him.

Christopher Cox is survived by his son Christopher W "Marvin" Cox, his grandson Asher Blake Cox, his parents James and Nora Cox, his brother Jerome and wife Kim Cox, his sister Jennifer and husband Ryan Ward, nieces and nephews Briauna Cox, Haley Cox, Megan Cox, Jerome 'Bubba
" Cox, Colten Ward and Kylee Ward, Great-Nephew Johnny Grimes III and a host of other relatives. He is preceded in death by his grandparents Marvin and Florence Cox, Wilbert and Bertha Miller.

Visitation for Chris Cox will be Thursday, June 26, 2025 from 1:00 pm - 7:00 pm. Funeral service will be Friday, June 27 at 10:00 am at the First Christian Church in Cleveland, Oklahoma with Pastor David Head and Tim Muniz. Private burial for family and pallbearers will be at the Terlton Cemetery on Friday, June 27th in the afternoon.
