Georgia Rae Prines (nee Cather) passed away peacefully on Monday morning, February 2, 2026, in Edmond, Oklahoma. She was 94 years old.
Georgia was born on March eleventh, 1931, in Pawnee Oklahoma, to Carl Raymond Cather and Irene Johnston Cather, and was the second of seven children.
In 1949 she met and married the love of her life James W. Prines, who was a member of the US Air Force and stationed at Vance Air Force Base near Enid, Oklahoma. They were blessed with four children - Michael, Steven, Daniel, and Carol. During Jim's military career they were stationed in Oklahoma, Louisiana, Texas, and California. Two of their most exciting assignments were overseas in France and Great Britain. Wherever they were stationed, Georgia always worked hard to provide a loving and stable home environment in which the family could thrive.
After Jim's retirement from the Air Force in 1969, Jim began a new career as a technical representative for the Pratt and Whitney aircraft engine division of the United Technology Corporation which led them on new adventures. They again lived in California for many years during which time they saw the increase to their family of two lovely daughters-in-law, Susan Holtzapfel (Michael) and Christine Graham (Steven). While posted in Brussels, Belgium for five years they proudly welcomed into the family a wonderful son in law, Dirk Dewachter (Carol).
Georgia was known for her gentle spirit and loved looking her best. She possessed an elegant and calm demeanor whether in support of Jim's representational role during Jim's second career or simply hosting family. Her smile would light up any room she was in, and she always saw the good in people. In 1991 the loving couple retired for good and moved to Bartlesville, Oklahoma where they happily entertained and provided support and valuable counsel to numerous friends and extended family. Georgia particularly cherished her roles as wife, mother, grandmother and aunt during this time.
After 66 years of devoted and happy married life, Jim passed away in 2016. Georgia continued to be a pillar of support and love for her family and friends during the subsequent years even as she looked forward to being with her beloved Jim again. Ten years to the month she quietly and with great joy rejoined him for all eternity.
Georgia is survived by her sons Steven and Daniel and her daughter Carol, five grandchildren (Timothy, Rachel, Jonathan, Ashley and Megan), eleven great grandchildren, and three great great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband Jim, her son Michael, her parents, and her siblings Cherie, Rose, Carlene, Vernon, and Caroln. Her sister Winnie is the only surviving sibling. Georgia will be greatly missed and eternally loved by all who were fortunate enough to know her.
