Thelma Maude Griesel Meeker

93 year old Pawnee pioneer mother and native of this area, passed away on Thursday, December 31, 2001* and funeral services were held here on Monday. She was born on March 4, 1908 to William Griesel and Effie (Cox) Griesel and lived in the Pawnee area all of her life. She graduated from Pawnee High School in 1926 and married Boyd Loren Meeker in Pawnee on March 13, 1926. He preceded her in death on May 31, 1975 after nearly 50 years of marriage.

Thelma cooked for the former Prosperity school district 26, worked on the election board and spent several years as a seamstress doing alterations for Marx-Wheeler Clothing Co. and Inez's. She was a member of the Pandora Home Demonstration Club and the Christian Church of Pawnee.

Survivors include 3 sons and 2 daughters: Roy Meeker and wife Barbara, Lawton, Oklahoma; Jo Meeker and wife Pat, Tuscon, Arizona; Dan Meeker and wife Norma, Edmond, Oklahoma; Patsy Wilson, Guthrie and Sue Pope and husband, Bill of Green Valley Lake, California plus 16 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren and 4 great-great grandchildren for a total of 51 direct descendants and 2 brothers-Dan and Melvin Griesel, both also of Pawnee. She was preceded in death by her husband, Boyd Meeker and her parents, William and Effie Griesel; a brother, Leroy Griesel; 2 sisters-Ethel Berg and Elizabeth Baker; an infant daughter, Thelma Ann, 3 grandsons and 3 great grandchildren.

The Rev. Tom Scott, pastor, officiated at the 1 p.m. funeral service at the First Christian Church on Monday, December 17, 2001 and interment was in Pawnee's Highland Cemetery under directions of the Poteet Funeral Home of Pawnee.

*I believe this is a typographical error. The numbers in the date were transposed. There is no Thursday, December 31, 2001. Also her funeral services were held 17 December 2001.
