Roy Meeker 13, Meets Fatal Accident

Roy Meeker, 13 year old son of Mr. and Mrs. C. C. Meeker, prominent old time citizens of Burnham township, suffered a fatal accident Saturday evening while riding horseback to Pawnee. He suffered concussion of the brain and was taken to the Stillwater hospital soon after the accident. He died at 1 o'clock Tuesday morning without having regained consciousness. Funeral services were held at the First Christian Church in Pawnee Wednesday afternoon, conducted by the Rev. M. F. Ingraham, after which the body was interred in Highland Cemetery.

Roy and several other boys were riding on horses to Pawnee, a car driven by Roy's brother passed them, and they fell in behind. Another car, loaded with boys and young men, came from the opposite direction, met the car driven by the Meeker boy passed it and struck the horse on which Roy was riding. The horse was killed. Roy's skull was crushed.

It is probable that Roy and the driver of the car which struck him were blinded by the dust and the car lights and did not see each other. The accident occurred on State Highway, No. 18 just west of the Herriman addition to Pawnee.
