Luettia Jane Parsons Jewell

January 21, 1942 ~ November 23, 2022

A native of Oklahoma, Luettia spent a lifetime raising a family and filling it with love. While not an avid church goer there’s no doubt that she was filled with spirit. At a very young age she met her late husband Donald and they began a great life together where they would raise six children of their own. James , Johnny, Richard, Lorri, Tonya and Jeffery along with two grandchildren Rebecca Lynn and Carl Don. Raising such a large family proved easy for Luettia, almost as easy as raising the thousands of plants she grew through the years. If there ever were a greener thumb I’ve never witnessed it. While everyone who visited her home would see it filled with everything from Cactus to Elephant Ears her all time favorite was a Lilly. During the summer days she could be seen tending to a garden or even trimming grass with a pair of scissors (yes , scissors) she had an unbelievable amount of determination to see something done, correct tool or not. While she spent the majority of her life tending to her family, she did hold the odd job once or twice. Once working as a seamstress in Pawnee for a short time, she kept the art alive by patching up clothes for not only the family but just about anyone around town who needed it. It wasn’t unusual to walk in and see a pile of jeans next to the sewing machine someone had dropped off for repair. Raising such a large family you can imagine she spent her fair share of hours over a skillet. Cast iron was the only way for Luettia , over an open flame the meals never disappointed. Perhaps one of her other great talents was homemade canned goods . The okra , quail eggs, tomatoes and pickles were treasured and generally disappeared faster than she could can them. While not busy with the kids, Luettia occasionally tried things to be more helpful around the house and one of those turned out to be driving a car. While she never learned, the times she tried left a lifetime of stories and laughter for those who witnessed the effort. Luettia was preceded in death by her parents Roy and Fanny Parsons, Husband Donald Ray Jewell, brothers and sisters Robert Parsons, Raymond Parsons, Julia Parsons, Dorothy Stokes, Betty Parsons and Nellie Moore, along with grandchildren Rebecca Jewell and Kendra Banta, great grandchildren Jhoslynn Jones, Harper Driscoll and Joshua Jones. Luettia is survived by Sister Nettie Parsons and Brother Jolly Parsons. Six children James, Johnny, Richard, Lorri, Tonya and Jeffery along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
