Charlotte Ann Burkdoll Dunn-Maltsberger

dunnca

December 12, 1939 ~ January 5, 2021

On December 12, 1939, Charlotte Ann Burkdoll was the second daughter born in Pawnee to Loyd and Loretta (Hamby) Burkdoll. She was raised in rural Pawnee and attended Pawnee Schools, graduating with the class of 1957. After her high school graduation, Charlotte attended Cosmetology School in Ponca City.

Upon completion of Cosmetology School, she married her high school sweetheart, Nolan Dunn. He accepted a job offer from Northrop King Feed & Seed in Lamar, Colorado and they lived there for the first six years of their marriage. They welcomed their two oldest daughters , Renee and Suan, while living in Lamar.

In 1963, they moved back to Pawnee where Nolan joined the cattle ranching business with the Burkdoll family. They welcomed their youngest daughter Lore in Pawnee in 1964. While raising her family in Pawnee, Charlotte was involved in many clubs and organizations. Her first love was her church, Pawnee First Christian, where she was involved as a member of the choir, filled in on the organ bench, and provided piano music for the children’s Sunday school classes. After retiring, she became involved in CWF where she served many years as President and also ministered the children's moment during Sunday worship services. She also served as the church Treasurer for many years. Charlotte was a servant to God and her Christian faith. Charlotte was a very devoted Mother to her three girls and thrived on being a part of their lives while they were growing up. Whether it be volunteering as home room mom, organizing PTA carnival fundraisers, sewing twirling uniforms or helping in concession stands at their basketball games, she was always there to help. She was also a gracious hostess in her home not only to her friends, but to all of the girl’s friends. She always had homemade goodies for anyone visiting her home where everyone was always welcome.

After the untimely death of her husband Nolan in 1976, Charlotte joined the work force after taking time off to raise her girls. She was employed at the Pawnee Lumber Company and the Pawnee National Bank. In 1983, she was hired by the Oklahoma State Auditor's office as a field auditor in the state. She traveled many miles every week to different county courthouses performing audits for the state.

Charlotte married Jarrett Maltsberger on April 1, 1992. After her retirement from the State Auditors office, her and Jarrett enjoyed many years of travel by themselves and with dear friends. They both loved dancing and also card and game nights with friends. They even found time in retirement to enjoy their grandchildren and the activities they were all involved with.

Besides her devotion to the church, Charlotte was also a co-founder of the Pawnee Alumni Association and was active until her passing. She spear-headed a campaign to raise funds needed to restore the historical Pawnee Bath House and swimming pool where so many generations in Pawnee had grown up swimming. She was also a member of the PEO Chapter H.

Charlotte's personal interests during her life included baking, sewing, quilting, crocheting, oil painting, and raising vegetables for canning.

Charlotte is survived by her husband Jarrett of the home, her daughter and husband Renee and Frank Bridges of OKC; her daughter and husband Suan and Reed Tinsley of Houston, TX; her daughter Lore Burchette of Dallas, TX; and stepson and wife Dave and Elaine Maltsberger of Carrollton, TX; grandchildren, spouses, and great-grandchildren, Barry and Betsy Bridges, Henry and Jack; Brooke and Eric Bansal and Samuel; Halea Burchette; Sean Tinsley and Christopher; Derrell and Audria Maltsberger, Christian, Elijah, and Mia; Cody and Pam Maltsberger, Emma and Tucker; Lindsay and Drew Murphy; and numerous extended family members and friends whom she loved dearly.

Charlotte was preceded in death by her parents, Loyd and Loretta Burkdoll, sister Sue Ellison White, husband Nolan Dunn, and stepdaughter Vickie Maltsberger

The family respectfully requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made in Charlotte's name to the First Christian Church of Pawnee, P.O. Box 207, Pawnee, Okla. 74058.
