Vera Lee Abington Barber

Vera Lee Barber, 79, of Pawnee, OK passed from this life on Friday, May 21, 2021 surrounded by her loving family. Vera was the youngest child born to Jerry Nathaniel Abington and Viola Abington on August 10, 1941. Vera was a life-long resident of Pawnee and retired from the Oklahoma Department of Transportation in November 2002.

Vera enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren, and she loved watching old westerns, like Gunsmoke and Bonanza. Vera’s holiday meals kept family and friends coming to her home each Thanksgiving and Christmas.

Vera is survived by three of her four children: Gina Barber, Pawnee, OK; Lucina Jones, Pawnee, OK; and Scott Barber and his wife Karen, Helena, AL. Grandchildren: Derek Barber and his wife Nancy, Pawnee, OK; Grant Jones and his wife Taylor, Grove, OK; Gerald Jones, Rapid City, SD; and Gerard Jones and his wife Yukari, Houston, TX. Vera was known as Granny Gran to her great-grandchildren: Cyntrell Carden, Stillwater, OK; Heaven and husband Brian Lamberson, Stillwater, OK; Rhonda, Derek Jr (DJ), Malique, Xavier, Trulee, Pierce, Ginavieve, Giavanni, and Kai. Vera was also blessed with great-great grandchildren: Amaria and Marcellus. Vera is also survived and loved by many nieces and nephews.

Vera was preceded in death by her parents Nathaniel and Viola Abington; her husband Thurman Gene Barber; her daughter Marcella Barber; and her siblings: Elias Sanders, Leroy Abington, Levi Abington, Clyde Abington, Hattie Rolland, Mildred Wiley, Pearl Abington, Charlene Johnson, and Abraham (Abe) Abington.

Vera was loved by many friends and family and her presence in this world filled many lives with joy and happiness. Vera provided us all with memories that will last more than a lifetime. Vera will be missed by everyone who knew her.
