Mary Elizabeth (Matthews) Tate
September 12, 1918 ~ December 27, 2020

Mary Elizabeth Tate of Vinita, Oklahoma went to be with the Lord on December 27, 2020 at the Heartsworth Center for Nursing. She was 102. Elizabeth was born on September 12, 1918 to David and Delia (Clarke) Matthews. After graduating from Afton High School, she married Newton Eugene (Gene) Tate. They had one son Newton Earle (Sonny) Tate. She worked and retired from Craig General Hospital. She is remembered for her strong faith and love of the Lord. She enjoyed gardening, crocheting for her family, her pet cat “Winkie” and his smarts and writing many letters to family and friends. She loved music and taught herself how to play the piano. She enjoyed playing at the Kelso Faith Baptist Church, Calvary Baptist, and the Heartsworth Center where she resided.

Elizabeth was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son, and only granddaughter Jennifer Lynn Tate. Siblings Robert Earle Matthews, Oneita Matthews, Myrtle Lee Rodman and Alice Vyvian Cloud.

She is survived by her grandson Jeff Ladra, great grandchildren Samantha Jean Lewellen, Cheyenne Marie Sylvia, Bobby Dylan Tate, Sonny James Sylvia and great- great grandchildren Brandon, Dillon and Melanie Ladra along with many nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held at Luginbuel Funeral Home on Monday, January 4, 2021 from 10 am-12 noon. Funeral service will follow at 2:00 pm. Burial will be at Mount Hope Cemetery, Afton, Oklahoma.
