Gracie Mae (Hickinbotham) Sanford, long time Barnsdall resident and retired beauty shop owner and operator, left this life to meet her Savior Jesus Christ early Thursday morning, July 2.

She was born on Jan. 22, 1928, at Melrose, KS, to Roy Washington Hickinbotham and Mona Belle Kelley Hickinbotham. She was reared in rural Barnsdall and graduated from Barnsdall High School in 1945. She was married to Lumus E. Sanford on Feb. 3, 1946, and they lived briefly in Miami, OK. They returned to Barnsdall where they reared their four children, Fred E., Mary Ann, John R., and Terry. Gracie owned and operated Gracie's Beauty Shop for many years.

A devoted and loving wife, mother and grandmother, Gracie was a long time member of the Barnsdall First Baptist Church. She also enjoyed roller skating with her eldest son, bowling in a league, family camping trips, crocheting and having "girls' day" with her sisters at their mother's house.

Survivors include two sons, John and wife Lori of Brunswick, GA, and Terry of Barnsdall, one daughter, Mary Mason of Barnsdall, a daughter-in-law, Stevana Sanford of Bartlesville, one sister, Dora Davis of Nowata, nine grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, four great-great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Lumus, in 2000, eldest son Fred E. in 2012, and two sisters, Betty Forrest and Bobbie Hudson.

Funeral services are scheduled for Wed. at 10 am at the Barnsdall First Baptist Church with Bro. Pat Andrews officiating. Interment will be in the Ethel Reese Cemetery under the direction of the Stumpff Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations to the youth department at Barnsdall First Baptist Church for camp scholarships.
