Ellen DeWeese, age 93, and longtime Barnsdall resident, passed away on Saturday, April 26, 2014, in the Barnsdall Nursing Center.

Ellen Madden was born October 12, 1920, in Evarts, Kentucky. She was the daughter of John Madden and Rebecca (King) Madden. She received her formal education in Evarts, and in 1942, she moved to Maryland. It was in Maryland that she met and married Charles Oliver DeWeese on June 15, 1943 in Havre de Grace, Maryland. She was employed at the munitions plant in Maryland during World War II. She was a homemaker and avid volunteer.

Ellen was a member of the First Baptist Church of Barnsdall and attended the Freewill Baptist Church in Barnsdall. She lived a very active life, including: Barnsdall Voter Poll Clerk; active in the Ladies VFW Auxillary, where she held several offices; was a volunteer at the Barnsdall Nursing Home. She enjoyed playing bingo and bowling and also enjoyed going to Las Vegas to gamble, as well as fishing and sewing costumes. She was also a very good cook.

Survivors include her children, Mark Madden DeWeese and his wife, Anita, of Wichita Falls, Texas, Charlene Crane and her husband, Joe, of Lawton, Oklahoma, and David DeWeese and his wife, Kathy, of Chanute, Kansas; 7 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; 6 great-great grandchildren; sisters, Mae Maxey and Margie Madden; and brother, Jonathan Madden. She was preceded in death by her parents, and her husband, Charles Oliver DeWeese.

Visitation for Mrs. DeWeese will be held on Tuesday, April 29, from 9:00 AM-8:00 PM in the Arnold Moore & Neekamp Funeral Home, 710 S. Dewey Ave. Family will be present from 6-8:00 PM on Tuesday.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Ladies VFW Auxillary, Barnsdall, Oklahoma or to the Boys & Girls Club.

Graveside services will be held on Wednesday, April 30, at 11:00 AM, in the Ethel Reese Cemetery, Barnsdall.
