Freda Mae Head, longtime resident of the Grainola Community, passed away Wednesday, June 15, 2011 at the Hillcrest Medical Center in Tulsa. She was 85 years of age.

Freda was born May 9, 1926 at Fairland, Oklahoma, the daughter of James Leroy Miller and Minnie Hazel Long Miller. She was a 1944 graduate of Shidler High School. She was married to Donaven Bud Head on February 18, 1945. Mr. Head preceded her in death on January 15, 1990. She later married Gene Barnes who also preceded her in death.

Freda was employed with the Joe Fulsom Construction Company for 17 years, retiring in 1990 as the office manager. She was a longtime member of the Grainola Methodist Church and in later years attended the Grace Baptist Church in Shidler. She was a past member of the Home Demonstration Club. Her enjoyments were her children and grandchildren, sewing for her family, and in earlier years, fishing and traveling. Freda was very proud to be originator of recipe that is used in the well known Head Country Barbeque Sauce.

She is survived by her two children, Donna Salyer and husband, Larry, of Hugo, Oklahoma, and Billy Don Head of Foraker four grandchildren, Donna DuBose and husband, Chance, of Owasso, Oklahoma, Kurt Salyer and wife, Melissa, of Collinsville, Oklahoma, B.D. Billy Head Jr. and wife, Lena, of Bristow, and Ty Salyer and wife, Tiffany, of Hugo nine great grandchildren, Carson, Caden and Carter DuBose, Billy Head III, Andrew and Hunter Head, Tyler, Trinity and Trace Salyer.

She was preceded in death by her parents 2 husbands two brothers, Paul Miller and Edward Miller, and one infant grandson.

Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 18, 2011 at the Foraker Cemetery with Vern Roe presiding. Arrangements are under the direction of Grace Memorial Chapel.
