guiney-b-l

December 12, 1940 ~ October 26, 2022

Dr. Betty Lee Guiney, 81 years old, passed away on Wednesday, October 26, 2022 at the Heart Hospital of New Mexico.

Betty was born on December 12, 1940, the only child of Lee Claude and Floy May (Gallaway) Reddick in Fairfax, Oklahoma. Raised in Fairfax, she graduated with the Red Devil Class of 1959. After High School, Betty attended Oklahoma State University in Stillwater, Oklahoma and Kansas State University in Manhattan, Kansas. During Betty’s sophomore year in college, she was one of only eleven women students in the Veterinary Medicine Program at OSU. In 1964, Betty graduated from OSU and was on the Presidents List of Distinguished Students with straight A’s. She received her Veterinarian License in August of 1968.

Throughout her lifetime, Betty traveled many places to attend rodeos and veterinary conferences, including California, Nevada and Hawaii. She often invited friends and family to travel with her. During one of her trips to Hawaii, she visited one of the nations oldest and largest ranches in the US, the Parker Ranch on the Big Island. Betty had a lengthy career in Veterinary Medicine, practicing in Arkansas, Colorado, California and New Mexico. She was a longtime member of the First United Methodist Church in Fairfax, Oklahoma and Maxwell, New Mexico.

Betty had a lifelong love of horses, owning many over the years. She also loved to spend a quiet afternoon reading or bird watching. Betty's spirit, gentle ways and love of family, friends and animals endeared her to all who knew her. She will be fondly missed and long remembered. Numerous cousins are left to cherish her memories, along with special friends Lamar and Susan Robinson.

Betty's wishes were to be laid to rest next to her parents in her hometown of Fairfax, Oklahoma. A graveside service will take place at the Fairfax City Cemetery on Saturday, November 12th at 10:30am. Services are entrusted to the Hunsaker Wooten Funeral Home in Fairfax. Her online guestbook may be signed at www.hunsakerwootenfuneralhome.com.
