Colleen Ann Bates, resident of Ponca City, passed away Sunday, July 11, 2010, at the Wesley Medical Center in Wichita, KS, at the age of 79.

Colleen was born on December 10, 1930 to V.C. Dugan and Ella (Williams) Dugan in Ponca City, OK. She graduated from Ponca City High School with the Class of 1948. Colleen was a longtime member of the First Lutheran Church of Ponca City where she was active in the Ladies Guild. She was also a member of Beta Sigma Phi, Laureate Phi Chapter, of Ponca… City. She worked briefly for Conoco and spent over 20 years working for the J. C. Hampton Insurance Agency. She enjoyed traveling all over the country with her husband, Joe, visiting friends and family.

Colleen was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, a cherished sister and aunt. She was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her loving and devoted husband of 50 years, Joe D. Bates, of the home; her son, Doug Wilkins, and wife, Kathy, of OKC; step-daughters: Teresa Rutherford and husband, Richard, of Ponca City; Liana Bates, of Ponca City; and Stacy Laskey and husband, Steve, of Tulsa; her sister, Eleanor Clinton of Wichita, KS; 2 nephews: Kevin Clinton and wife, Liz, of Seattle, WA, and Chris Clinton and wife, Pam, of Wichita, KS; 1 grandson, Chris Wilkins, of OKC; 7 step-granddaughters: Jennifer McKenney of Ponca City; Heather (Laskey) Kirkland of Denver, CO; Brooke Laskey of Dallas, TX; Errin (Rutherford) Loughridge of St. Louis, MO; Tiana (Rodgers) Aucion of St. Spring Lake, NC; Katy Laskey of Tulsa; and Jessica Rodgers of Baton Rouge, LA; and 5 precious great-granddaughters.

Services for Colleen will be held at 1:00 p.m., Friday, July 16, 2010 at the First Lutheran Church with Rev. Tom Ramsey, pastor of the First Lutheran Church, officiating. Burial will then follow at the Fairfax Cemetery in Fairfax, OK. Arrangements are under the direction of Trout Funeral Home & Crematory.

Casketbearers will be Chris Wilkins, Steve Laskey, Richard Rutherford, Ed Loughridge, Shane Swords, and Earl Krieg. Honorary Casketbearers will be the Lutheran Men's Bible Class.
