GEORGE A. HOWEL July 29, 1931 - March 19, 2004 Services: Tues., March 3, 2004

George was born in Beggs, Oklahoma, on July 29, 1931, and passed away on March 19, 2004, in Bakersfield, California.

During the Dust Bowl Era, George and his family moved from Oklahoma to California, where they eventually settled in the Bakersfield area. He joined the Air Force in 1951, where he learned the trade of diesel mechanics. In June 1966, he returned to Bakersfield with his wife and children, where he later owned and operated Al's Road Service, Inc. for 25 years, retiring in 1993. George was a workaholic, and loved working in his garden, tending his animals, beekeeping, and going fishing.

In addition to his numerous hobbies, George was Life Member of the Emeth Lodge No. 1030 AF & MA Masons of the State of Illinois and a Life Member to the 32nd degree Scottish Rite. Al Malaikah Kern County Shrine.

George was preceded in death by his parents, Ed and Lottie Howell. He is sur vived by his wife of 48 years, Norma; his daughters Teddie Myers of Armona, Ca., Lisa Lott of Picayune, Miss., and Valerie Howell, of Fresno, Ca.: sons Jeff Garnett, Steven Howell, and Allen Howell, all of Bakersfield, Ca. and their respective spouses; 20 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren. In addition, he is survived by his eight younger siblings; Grace Bryson of San Bernardino, Ca., Troy Howell of Torrance, Ca., Paralee Webb of Clovis, N.M., Bob Howell of Bakersfield, Ca., John Howell of Rio Rancho, N. M., Carl Howell of Bakersfield, Ca., Susie Luster of Rio Rancho, N.M. and Jim Hlwell of No. Hollywood, Ca., their respective spouses, and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.

Dad, we love you. You will be greatly missed by all. What will we do without all your stories?

Visitation will be 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. on March 22, 2004 at Hillcrest Mortuary. Graveside services will be at 10 a.m., March 23, 2004 at Hillcrest Cemetery.
