L. S. Alexander Dies in Hospital After Truck Upsets

Driver is Injured

Swerves to Avoid Hitting Bakery Truck;
Pinned under Machine

Deputy Fire Chief L. S. Alexander was killed and Fireman George L. Baker was slightly hurt when a fire truck overturned Thursday at Broadway and California-av. Alexander died at Oklahoma City General hospital.
The truck, driven by Lieut. E. Kincaid, was going east on California-av in answer to an alarm from the 500 block on E. Choctaw-av.
It upset in swerving north to avoid hitting a Campbell Baking Co. Truck, which was coming fromt he south.
Dr. O. C. Logan, first block W. Reno-av. had a narrow escape from death when he jumped from the path of the careening truck which crashed into a parked car belonging to Sam J. Drilling, 1100 block N. Harvey-av.



Was Veteran Fireman

Alexander was a veteran of the department, 35, married and has two children. He lives in the 200 block of E. 31st-st S.
Alexander was riding in the front seat with Kincaid. He was pinned under the truck and not freed until crowd enough collected to lift the truck off him.
Kincaid escaped injury.
Baker, a younger man than Kincaid, was bruised and is not believed to have been seriously injured. Baker lives in the 300 block W. Third-st. H. M. Lewis, 419 West Noble-av. The fourth man on the truck, was not hurt.
No damage was done to the Campbell Baking truck. It was driven by Irving DeVore, 1526 E. ninth-st.
R. Lahl, a tourist stopping at Log Cabin park, was arrested soon after the accident. He was charged with the theft of Alexander's purse which had fallen to the ground. The charge was filed by Jim Brady, 3115 W. 15th-st. Brady told police he saw Lahl pick the purse up. Lahl is in the city jail.
The fire was in a mattress. The blaze was extinguished and fireman had returned to their headquarters 15 minutes after the alarm.
