May Lovett Corley

May Lovett Corley, age 91, of Tecumseh, died Wednesday, June 21, 2000 in Tecumseh. Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 24, 2000 at 2:00 p.m. in Cooper Funeral Chapel with Elders Sonny & Bill Huckaby, both of Primitive Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will follow in Sunny Lane Cemetery under the direction of Cooper Funeral Home, Tecumseh. She was born October 26, 1908 in Tishomingo , Oklahoma to Will & Ida (Furr) Lovett. She was reared in the Tishomingo area and attended Prairie View School near Tishomingo . She married Chester S. Sliger on March 1, 1924 and Mr. Sliger preceded her in death on July 6, 1925. On April 3, 1929, she married Troy Corley in Sulphur, Oklahoma. She lived in Oklahoma City from 1929 until 1949. Shethen moved to Detroit for 3 years before returning to Oklahoma City in 1953. She lived in Maud, Texas from 1958 until 1980 and had resided in Tecumseh since 1980. She was a very active member of New Hope Primitive Baptist Church. May was a warm and loving mother, grand mother and ideal helpmate as a minister's wife. She was strength and comfort in times of crisis, an ever ready helper to those in need, and an endearing friend to all. Her love of mankind, her deep well of cheerful optimism, and her unshakable faith in God made her a beloved figure in every community touched by her life. Mr. Corley preceded her in death on November 1, 1982. She was also preceded in death by her parents; two sons, Bob Corley & Ewell Corley; one great grandchild and one great great grandchild. Surviving relatives include her children: Troylene & Brad Thayer of Tulsa; Arthur V. & Oleta Corley of Claremore; Chester S. & Martha Sliger of Tecumseh; Le & Matt Schumacher of Muskogee; and Sue Hart of Oklahoma City; twenty-three grandchildren; numerous other relatives & friends. The family has designated the Oklahoma Research Foundation as appropriate for memorials.
