J.R. DeWitt

J. R. DeWitt, 80, of Midwest City, OK passed away Saturday, March 24, 2012. J. R. was born August 8, 1931 in Okemah, OK to Columbus Edward and Ethel Ola (Lankford) DeWitt. He served his country in the US Army and Marines and bravely did his duty during the Korean Conflict. J. R. married the love of his life, Wanda, in 1953 and in 1954 and 1955 became father to two sons, Michael and Patrick. He also served as a police officer and prison guard before settling into a career as a barber. He was a jack-of-all-trades and Mr. Fix-it. There was nothing J. R. couldn"t fix and he had a particularly magic touch with old contrary lawn mowers. He loved to collect things and had many different collections, including rocks, crystals, farm equipment, antiques, movies and old music. J. R. loved to hunt, fish and be outdoors. He also loved to joke and tease, often trying to convince youngsters that his name was really Jack Rabbit. J. R.'s greatest accomplishment was being a wonderful dad and he excelled at bringing up his boys. He spent a lot of time helping with Boy Scouts and little league to be with his boys and make sure they had many happy days. J. R. was dearly loved by many and will be missed by all that had the pleasure to know him. He is survived by his wife Wanda, of the home; daughter, Sandy; granddaughter, Sonja K. DeWitt, husband Eric and their children Cody, Mia, Joshua, Brianna and Autumn; grandson, Christopher, wife Susan and their children Bryan, Taylor and Sebastian; grandson, Jason DeWitt; granddaughter Sara Waters, husband Jeff and their children Patrick and Serria; granddaughter Lisa Wilson, husband Tommy and their child Kyle. J. R. was preceded in death by his parents and his sons Michael and Patrick.
