JAMES EARL STAGGS
3/9/1932 - 5/24/2004
Graveside services will be held 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, June 1, 2004, at the Hillcrest Memorial Park, 9101 Kern Canyon Rd., for James Earl Staggs of Bakersfield, CA. Pastor Jim Cherry officiating and military honors performed by the Kern County Associated Veterans. A visitation will be held 1-5 p.m. Sunday at the Bakersfield Family Funeral Directors, 701 34th Street, Bakersfield, CA.
James was born March 9, 1932, in Weleetka, Oklahoma to Clayton and Libby Staggs. He proudly served our country in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict where he earned a Purple Heart. He was his Sgt's radio man. Unfortunately, both of them were severly wounded while scouting in enemy territory north of the 38th parallel in Kaum WA Valley by a landmine explosion.
James leaves behind to cherish his memory his caregivers for the past 9 years his sister and her husband, Bernice and Claude Whittington of Bakersfield; sister, June Prince; brother, Earl Staggs; daughter, Sherry Newton; son, Michael Staggs; seven grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
