On Thursday, September 18, 2003, Horace H. Womack, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, son, brother and friend, quietly passed away at his home after an 8 year courageous battle of Multiple Myeloma cancer. Services will be held Tuesday, September 23, 2003, 1:00 p.m., at Valley Baptist church, 4800 Fruitvale Avenue. Interment to follow at Shafter Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday, September 21, 2003, 12-5 p.m. and Monday, September 22, 2003, 12-5 p.m. Pastor Rich Paradis will officiate.

Horace was born in Weleetka, Oklahoma, on June 21, 1935, to Horace H. Womack and Grace Willie Womack. After his father's death, his mother married Robert Meek and his family moved to Shafter, California when Horace was 12 years old. He graduated from Shafter High School in 1953, then attended Barber College. He married his high school sweetheart Barbara Aday on May 29, 1955, and at that time they made their home in Bakersfield. He owned his own Barbershop for 14 years. He worked 5 years as a car salesman for Three-Way Chevrolet. For 23 years, he worked as a successful agent for Allstate Insurance Company.

Horace's life in Bakersfield was dedicated to the needs of his customers. No matter the job he did, he always priced himself in customer satisfaction. If Horace was your agent, you knew that you were "in good hands." Horace had many customers that followed him through his careers because he was always an honest gentleman that could be trusted and cared about the well being of his customers. Horace frequently received honors as "Top Salesman" for Three-Way Chevrolet and various special recognition awards as an Allstate Insurance agent.

He truly enjoyed being with people. Horace always would see someone that he knew when he went somewhere, whether it was around town or on a trip. His compassion, integrity, kindness, and love for his family and friends made him an exceptional person. Horace was a man that always put the needs of concerns of others before his own. No matter what the situation, Horace made sure that things were taken care of to meet the needs of those he loved.

Horace was a man that loved God. He was a deacon of the First Southern Baptist Church in Shafter where he was also the director of Sunday School and a Sunday School teacher. As a teacher of God's word, he always studied God's word diligently. In later years, Horace became a faithful member of Valley Baptist Church. He enjoyed the many Christian friendships that were developed during his many trips with the Valley Voyagers.

A lifelong sports fan, Horace played basketball in high school. Horace became an avid golfer in his later years and treasured each moment he was able to be on the golf course. Horace enjoyed attending all the sporting events of his grandsons. One of his most cherished events was to travel to Cooperstown, New York to see his oldest grandson play with the KC Royals baseball team and win the Cooperstown Dream Park National Invitational Tournament and be inducted into the American Youth Baseball Hall of Fame in 1996.

A devoted Christian family man, Horace will be deeply missed by his loving family. He is survived by his beloved wife of 48 years, Barbara; his loving son, Ron; his loving daughter, Elaine Deaton and son-in-law, John Deaton; and his most cherished grandchildren, Ryan, Christian and Katelyn. He is also survived by his mother-in-law, Lucille Aday; his brothers, Charles and sister-in-law, Jackie, James and sister-in-law, Betty; and numerous nieces and nephews. Horace is preceded in death by his father, Horace H. Womack; mother, Grace Meek; stepfather, Robert Meek; father-in-law, Troy Aday; brother, Bill Womack; and stepbrother J. R. Meek. Horace was blessed with many wonderful friends who added much joy to his life. Through the years he has touched many individuals who will miss him dearly.

The family would like to thank Dr. Gary Schiller of UCLA Medical Center and Dr. James Saiki for the devoted care and respect they gave Horace the past 8 years. We appreciate the loving care that Hoffmann Hospice gave to Horace the last few days of his incredible life.
