Funeral services for John F. VanMeter 77 will be held Thursday, April 12, at 10a.m. in the Castle Cemetery with Rev. Charles Harelson officiating. He died April 9 in the Creek Nation Community Hospital after a brief illness.
VanMeter was born at St. Joe, Arkansas, on October 1, 1912, the son of Thomas and Martha (Briscoe) VanMeter. He was married to Miss Velma Peoples at Marshall, Arkansas in 1931. He was a retired custodian and a member of the Pentecostal Church at Delano, Calif. He had made his home in the Okemah area for the past several years.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Velma VanMeter, of the home; one daughter, Mrs. Leona Allen, Bakersfield; two brothers, Cleander Allen, Harrison, Arkansas, and Joe Allen, Fayetteville, Arkansas; seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Interment will be in the Castle Cemetery under the direction of the Parks Brothers Funeral Home.
