Virginia Lee (Carter) Young

Virginia Lee (Carter) Young
September 22, 1919 ~ November 1, 2014 (age 95)

Virginia Lee Young passed away on November 1, 2014 in Norman, Oklahoma, following a brief illness.  She was 95.

Virginia was born on September 22, 1919, in Carthage,    Missouri, to Oscar and Grace Carter.  She married DeForrest  Eugene Young in 1942.  They spent their early years of    marriage in Webb City, Missouri, Miami, Oklahoma, and   Joplin, Missouri.  In 1959, they moved to Kansas City,  Missouri with their two sons, Steve and Brad. Virginia lived in her Kansas City home on her own until the age of 93.  In December 2012, she moved to Norman, Oklahoma to be near family.

Virginia had a unique quality of seeing only the best in people and you would never see her without a smile on her face.  She was a woman of faith and very involved in her church.  She never hesitated to compliment a stranger and let everyone know that she loved Jesus and Jesus loved them.

Virginia is survived by her son, Steve, and daughter-in-law, Eileen, of Norman, Oklahoma, and by her three grandchildren: Erin Elizabeth Young of Dallas, Texas, Michael      DeForrest Young and his wife, Odila Soto Young, of Melbourne, Australia, and Kelly Eugene Young of Kansas City, Missouri.  She was preceded in death by her husband, DeForrest, and by her younger son, Bradly Eugene Young.

The family wants to thank the staff at the Bridges Unit of Grace Living Center for their loving care.

Virginia will be buried in Joplin, Missouri, following services at Havenbrook Funeral Home.
