Sylvia Marie (Phipps) Young
August 1, 1934 ~ July 17, 2016

Sylvia Marie (Phipps) Young passed away on Sunday, July 17, 2016, in Odessa, Texas. Sylvia was born on August 1, 1934 at Clearfork, Oklahoma to Ross Charles Phipps and Flossie Weaver.

Sylvia married Grover Lee Young on June 16, 1952 in Marion County, Arkansas. They lived in Blackwell, Oklahoma for over 20 years before moving to Proctor, Oklahoma in 1980. While living in Blackwell, Sylvia was employed by Peter Pan Ice Cream Stores and Wal-Mart. She also served as a deputy with the Kay County Sheriff Reserves for many years. Sylvia moved to Odessa, Texas in 2014 to live with her daughter and son-in-law, Wendy and Scott Boyd.

Sylvia is preceded in death by her husband Grover, her father Ross Phipps and wife Hattie, and her mother Flossie (Weaver) Maggard and husband Ancil.

Sylvia is survived by her children: Wendy Boyd and husband Scott, Leila Kelly and husband Joe, Olen Young and wife Tamie, Travis Young and wife Mary, Lynn Young and wife Kristy: one brother, R.C. Phipps and wife Shirley: grandchildren, Tim Kelly, James Kelly and wife Angela, April Kelly, Denver Poteet and wife Bethany, Brooke Young, Lauren Boyd: one great grandchild, Hudson Kelly: one uncle, Kenneth Maggard and wife Margery: as well as a large extended family and many, many friends.

In lieu of cards or flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made to Hospice of Midland in memory of Sylvia Young.
