Elbert "Ed" Youell

March 27, 1927 ~ September 11, 2005

Elbert "Ed" Youell age 78 of Tuttle passed away Sunday, September 11, 2005 at Integris Southwest Medical Center in OKC.

He was born on March 27, 1927 in Wilson, Oklahoma. He was the youngest of 4 children born to Elbert Youell and Alton Beatrice Goode. Ed grew up on the farm in Carter, Co., Oklahoma. In his earlier years he attended country schools Prairie Valley and later Zanies. Two days after he turned 17 years old, he joined the U. S. Navy. He served 2 years over seas during WWII before being honorably discharged in 1946. After being discharged he returned home to Oklahoma and met a young lady by the name of Joyce Stubbs. They were married on August 23, 1947 in Wilson, OK. This past year they celebrated 58 years of marriage.

Ed knew he wanted to pursue his education so he began attending Murray Jr. College in Tishomingo. He later attended East Central in Ada where he received his B.S. degree in mathematics. He continued on and in 1954 received his Masters degree from Oklahoma A & M in Stillwater. For nearly 12 years Ed taught math, was a principal or was a superintendent with the Oklahoma Public Schools system. He had lived in various towns including, Foraker, Davenport, Bokchito, Yale and Indiahoma.

In the late 1960's he began working for General Electric and later the Bendix Corp. where he was involved in aerospace projects. Ed has lived in the Tuttle area since 1986 and was a member of the Snow Hill Baptist Church. Throughout his life he enjoyed the outdoors, hunting and fishing. For the past 20 years he has enjoyed buying and selling used cars, salvaging and selling car parts.

He will be remembered as a dear husband, a wonderful father, a special grandfather, brother-in-law, uncle, cousin and friend.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers and one sister; and his only child and daughter, Doris Martinez.

Survivors include his wife, Joyce, of the home; two granddaughters, Robin Cawthra and husband Andrew of Edmond and Kelly Dick and husband Brian of Edmond; one great grandson Gavin; one great granddaughter on the way, three sisters-in-law; Lois Youell of Ft. Worth, Texas, Jenetta Brown of Elmer, Okla, and Scyglenda Sue Lander and husband Pete of Arkansas City, Kan.; and several cousins, nieces, nephews and a host of friends.

Funeral services will be 10:00 am Thursday, Sept. 15, 2005 at Snow Hill Baptist Church East of Tuttle. Officiating will be Dr. Todd Littleton. Pallbearers will be; Andrew Cawthra, Brian Dick, Alifonso Martinez, Keith Lee, Mark and Richard Johnson. Funeral arrangements by Wilson-Little Funeral Home in Newcastle.
