Thomas B Yeargain

Thomas B Yeargain
January 5, 1941 ~ October 5, 2018 (age 77)

Thomas B. Yeargain, 77, passed away October 5, 2018. He was born January 5, 1941 in Tulsa, OK to Virgil and Mary Lee Yeargain.

Tom's strong Christian faith led him to incorporate the characteristics of strong morality and integrity along with humility in each endeavor that was placed before him in life. He embodied these personal traits by always displaying honesty, selflessness, and humor in everything he did.

As a high school, college, and pro athlete, Tom excelled in many sports, culminating with him playing football for OKC Plainsmen as a member of the Dallas Cowboys Taxi Squad. He joined the US Army at age 13, serving 8 years and receiving an honorable discharge in 1962.

He retired from Frisco/ Burlington Northern Railroad as brakeman/conductor and yardmaster. Tom served as a member of the Oklahoma City School Board during legal action that was taken to the Supreme Court, winning that decision for the school system and his district. His proudest accomplishment during his term was getting his Alma Mater, Southeast High School, reopened as a charter school. As an activist for the citizens of Oklahoma, he worked tirelessly to get the Lemon Law in Oklahoma passed.

His hobbies included being a licensed gunsmith and unsurpassed mechanic. Tom loved restoring classic cars, motorcycles, and trikes. There was nothing that Tom couldn't build or restore.

Tom was preceded in death by his parents; and brothers: Jerry, Jim, and Mike. He is survived by his wife, Cathy; sons: Bart, Jack, and Mickey; brother, Virgil; and many grandchildren and great grandchildren; along with multitudes of children in the community that he mentored.

A memorial ceremony will be held 2pm Thursday in the Chapel at Resthaven.
