Joe Alan Witten

Joe Alan Witten
September 23, 1967 ~ March 31, 2022

Joe Alan Witten, husband, father, friend, co-worker, and physician passed away on Thursday, March 31, 2022, in Oklahoma City after fighting and winning a long battle with ill health. He was born on September 23, 1967, to Chester and Marceline Witten in Midwest City.

Joe was preceded in death by his parents and a brother.

He is survived by his wife, Ann Witten; son, Zachary Alan Witten; and brother, Jim Powell.

After graduating from Midwest City High School, Joe entered the U.S. Navy serving at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba and Jacksonville, Florida. It was there he discovered the love of medicine as a Navy Corpsman. After his honorable discharge, Joe was encouraged to attend medical school. He completed his undergraduate studies at the University of Oklahoma and a Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree at Oklahoma State University College of Osteopathic Medicine (OSUCOM) in Tulsa. Joe's medical residency was at St. Anthony's Hospital in Oklahoma City where he met his future wife, Ann Williams. They married on April 28, 2007, and their son, Zachary Alan was born on March 12, 2009. Joe and Ann would have celebrated their 15th anniversary this year.

Joe and his family loved being a part of the close-knit Marietta community. After working with the doctors, nurses, and support staff at Mercy Health Love County, Joe felt it was the perfect place to put down his medical roots. He cared about all his patients and gave extra time and effort for their wellbeing. He also knew that Turner Schools and the surrounding communities would help Zach and Ann thrive in creating special friendships and experiences.

Ann and Zach appreciate all the kindness, prayers, and good will they have been given.

A memorial service to celebrate Joe's life will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 23 at the Flanagan-Watts Funeral Home Chapel, Marietta with Don Klingler officiating and Jim Tidmore and Dr. Stephen Hutchins assisting.

Memorial contributions in honor of Joe's life and the love for his autistic son can be made to Autism of Oklahoma, autismoklahoma.org or a local veterans' organization.
