Tony Ray “Tata” Winningham

Tony Ray “Tata” Winningham
June 24, 1947 ~ April 22, 2024

Tony Ray (Tata) Winningham, 76, of Colbert, Oklahoma, passed away on April 28th, 2024, in his home surrounded by his family.

Tony was born in Washington in June 1947. His parents were Calvin and Ruthy May Winningham. He married Joann Ables in 1968. His main residence was Colbert, OK, but he lived in California, Washington, and Arizona throughout his years. Tony attended college at East Central University in Ada, OK. Tony served his country in the Air Force where he worked on aircraft. After college, Tony taught math at Colbert High School for many years. He enjoyed coaching baseball, especially with his son Jeff. He and his wife opened a coffee roasting business that was open for many years and traveled all over Texas as the Texoma Coffee Roasters. Tony retired from Murray State College as a professor. Tony loved new adventures and traveling. He and Joann rode all over the U.S. on their yellow trike exploring the best views from the road and visiting many different cities. Tony was heavily involved in the Choctaw Nation. He served as the chair of the senior center and participated in setting up the Indian Taco drives and the Choctaw Indian performances wearing regalia from that time, along with serving the Choctaw community.

Tony was a hard-working man. He was very close to his family and always made sure they were loved and taken care of. Tony loved cooking. Everyone who knew him could think of something he had cooked for them sometime in their lives. He made sure that each of his family members had their favorite meal cooked for them for their birthdays every year. He and Joann spent plenty of time in the gym together. They were always going and doing something, but no matter what or where it was, it was together.

Tony’s surviving family includes his wife, Joann Winningham, of Colbert, OK; his son, Jeff Winningham, and daughter, Samantha Winningham, both of Platter, OK; his sister, Charlene Eastridge, and husband, Neil Eastridge; his brother Rusty Winningham; his brother, Fred Winningham, and wife Leslie Winningham; his grandchildren, Bridget Winningham, Domanic Winningham, Brad Shatto, and Cody Auldridge and wife Cassandra Auldridge; and his great-grandchildren, Jason, Tina, Christopher, and Tessa.
