Jerry Wayne Wimberley
June 7, 1935 ~ February 12, 2021

 Jerry Wayne Wimberley passed away on February 12, 2021, at his home after a lengthy battle with Dementia. A man of science, and a lover of the arts, he lived an active 85 years and will be fondly remembered by many for his colorful personality. Arrangements are under the direction of Trout Funeral Home & Crematory, 505 W. Grand Ave., Ponca City, OK 74601.

He was born in San Angelo, Texas on June 7, 1935, to Minnie Lee and Walter Leslie Wimberley, the youngest of eight children. He was educated in San Angelo public schools. Upon graduation, he attended San Angelo Jr. College and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Chemistry. He then attended The University of North Texas in Denton, where he received a Bachelor of Science and went on to also get a Master’s degree, both in Analytical Chemistry. While at UNT, he met Kathleen Smith. They were married on January 27, 1957, in Midland, Texas.

They had three children: Debra Ruth Mathews, Walter Wayne Wimberley, Christopher Ray Wimberley; grandchildren, Kathryn, Stephanie, Candace, Wesley, Bradley, Kaylee and 5 great-grandchildren.

He accepted a job in the research department of Conoco in Ponca City in 1960 and was a research group leader for many years. He also loved working in the lab and had many published papers and patents. After early retirement in 1992, he and Kathleen traveled the world together. He also kept himself busy with woodworking, painting, and enjoyed playing golf and tennis for recreation. Everyone knew him as the life of the party.

Jerry was preceded in death by both parents, seven siblings, and a grandson, Wesley.

There will be no service at this time. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to Hospice of North Central Oklahoma at 445 Fairview Ave., Ponca City, OK, 74601.
