Travis Merton Wilson

Travis Merton Wilson
December 8, 1939 ~ June 4, 2018

Travis Merton Wilson, a longtime Bartlesville resident, passed away peacefully at his residence on June 4, 2018. He was surround by all of his immediate family.

Travis was born on December 8, 1939 in Tonkawa, Oklahoma. He was the son of Merton Haskin Wilson and Ethel LaVerne (Travis) Wilson. He grew up in Cushing, attending grade school there and graduating from Cushing High School in 1958. He attended Oklahoma State University and graduated with a B.S. in Tech Ed. He proposed to his high school sweetheart, Nelda Jane Carter, on Christmas Eve 1962 and they were married June 15, 1963 in the First Christian Church in Cushing, Oklahoma.

In 1967, Travis accepted a job with Phillips Petroleum and they moved to Bartlesville. He worked in the research department as a Scientific Glassblower most of his 32 years at Phillips. Their daughter, Dawn, was born May 2, 1968 and their son, Kahle followed two years later on July 20, 1970.

Travis retired from Phillips in 1998 to spend more time with Nelda and their grandchildren. He and Nelda enjoyed traveling with their lifelong friends to Alaska, Mexico, Colorado and Hawaii. Long before kids, Travis volunteered with the Boy Scouts, helping with the camping, hiking and especially the canoeing trips. Bow hunting was one of his many interests, which answered his need to be outdoors. He was an avid snooker and pool player, both of which he learned in his granddad's billiard hall in Oklahoma City. This passion continued until he was unable to play due to his health. His other interests at various times included contract bridge, poker and bowling, and after retirement he became active in Tai-Chi. Eventually Travis and several friends became regular movie goers. There was no movie too bad to watch and critique.

Travis is survived by his sister, DeeAnn Wilson of Leawood, Kansas, daughter Dawn and her husband Scott of Bartlesville, son Kahle and his wife Stephany of Edmond, and grandchildren Kayna, Turner, Cooper, Kaden and Kyler.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Nelda Jane (Carter) Wilson and his parents Merton and Ethel Wilson.

The family would like to thank all of his friends, family, caregivers and the Grace Hospice team for all of their love and support.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation at www.pulmonaryfibrosis.org or to The Journey Home at 900 NE Washington Blvd, Bartlesville, OK 74006.

A celebration of life memorial service will be held Saturday, June 9th at 10:30AM at Disciples Christian Church in Bartlesville. Reverend Kelley Becker and Reverend Scott Taylor will officiate.

Arrangements are under the direction of Stumpff Funeral Home and crematory.

Friends who wish may sign the online guestbook and leave condolences at stumpff.org
