Retired Lieutenant of the Oklahoma Highway Patrol Badge #29 Michael I. Williams, age 82, of Durant, Oklahoma passed away on March 31, 2025, at his home with his family by his side. Mike was born on May 24, 1942, in Durant to the late Jessie “Turk” and Rachel Josephine Williams. Mike graduated from Durant High School and Southeastern Oklahoma State University. He married his true love, Kay Marie Young, in 1963 in Durant and they began their journey together for 62 years and they were proud parents of two children, Greg and Kelly.
Mike began his career with Oklahoma Highway Patrol on August 25, 1967, and retired on September 30, 2002. He proudly served the State of Oklahoma and received Trooper of the Year in 1978 for his heroism during the shootout in Caddo, Oklahoma. He was also the recipient of the J. Edgar Hoover Memorial Award. He was a proud member of the Choctaw Nation Oklahoma and proudly served in the Army Reserves for 8 years and he enjoyed fishing, taking pictures, and painting in his later years. Mike loved his family more than anything and treasured the time he spent with them.
Mike is preceded in death by his parents Jessie “Turk” and Rachel Williams; brother Jerry Williams and nephew Robb Young.
His family left behind to continue Mike’s amazing legacy are his wife Kay Williams of the home; son Greg Williams of Durant, OK; daughter Kelly Hart of Dekalb, TX; grandchildren Ladye Hobson of Oklahoma City, OK, Kevin Williams and wife Marijean of Piedmont, OK, Katy Williams and husband Jake of Pauls Valley, OK, Tanner Mize of Durant, OK, and Treyton Hart of Durant, OK; great grandchildren Brylan, Diondre, Kaia, Eli, Etta, Dax, and Hunter; special buddy and friend Greg Williams of Dekalb, TX and numerous extended family and friends.
A celebration of Lt. Mike Williams life with Oklahoma Highway Patrol Honors will be held at 10:00 AM Monday April 7, 2025, at Brown’s Funeral Service Chapel. Donnie Hyde will officiate. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.brownsfuneralservice.com.
