David Steven "Cap" Willey

David Steven "Cap" Willey
October 28, 1956 ~ September 15, 2025

David was born on October 28, 1956, in Claremore to Carl and Bette (Penix) Willey. David attended Claremore High School and graduated with the class of 1974. On May 16, 1985, at the Gazebo in Claremore, OK, David married the love of his life Charla Willyard. Following a honeymoon in Maui (which was David’s first time to fly) the couple made their home in Claremore. Their marriage was gifted with one son Jonathan Willey and a beautiful granddaughter Lydia Willey. David played the roll of father figure to 13 other children, who most of the time, you could find at David and Charla’s home. Once again demonstrating that selfless giving to others. David provided for his family by working for the Claremore Fire Department. It was a career that lasted for 30 years, retiring as a Captain.

David dedicated his life to his community. During his tenure with the Fire Department, David was not only a leader but a respected mentor to countless firefighters. He was instrumental in shaping the careers and lives of those he worked with. A strong, yet one of the gentlest men you could ever meet. David loved with his whole heart and served his fellow man selflessly, putting his family above all else. An avid outdoorsman, he was a passionate bow hunter and a knowledgeable gun and knife enthusiast. David liked canoeing and kayaking. Claremore Lake, Noel MO, and Nianagle, MS were just a few of his favorite destinations. He liked animals as well and it didn’t matter what kind. David had a pet skunk, dogs, racoon, a rabbit named “Loppy” and even Ruby the mule, that he would take on the trails of Colorado. His quiet strength and unwavering integrity will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

David is survived by his wife Charla, his treasured son, Jonathan, his cherished granddaughter Lydia, his doting big sisters, Sara Masters and husband CJ, Susan McCoy and husband Steve, Sydney Craft and husband Ray, his treasured nieces and nephews, dearly beloved friends, and the brotherhood of firefighters he served with for so many years. David was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Bette Willey, and his daughter-in-law, Corryn Willey, whom he dearly cherished.
