 Palmer Marler Funeral Home Chapel

Jimmie Jay Welch, 79, long time resident of Perry, died the evening of January 1, 2017 at St. Anthony’s Hospital in Oklahoma City. Because Jim did not want his family and friends to fuss over him, there will not be a formal church service, instead, in keeping with his wishes, a come and go celebration of his life and viewing will be held from 2 to 5 p.m. Saturday, January 7, in the chapel of Palmer Marler Funeral Home. Palmer Marler Funeral Home is entrusted with arrangements.

Jim was born on January 21, 1937 to Clarence and Edith (Bench) Welch in Stringtown, Oklahoma. Jim graduated high school from Fairfax, Oklahoma in 1956. On March 4 1972 he was united in marriage to the love of his life, Effie (VanHoesen) Bocox, in Perry, Oklahoma.

Jim worked for Dresser Atlas, then owned and operated Texaco Service Station at the corner of 7th and Elm in Perry for a few years. Jim worked for Charles Machine Works, when he retired after thirty plus years of service. He also owned his own spraying business after his retirement. Jim enjoyed working with anything mechanical and was very good at repairing cars, lawnmowers, and motorcycles. He loved spending time with his family and watching his grandchildren’s sporting and FFA events.

Jim had a love for animals and raised many different kinds; such as, chickens, ducks, miniature horses, emu, goats, and chinchillas. He also enjoyed being outside gardening.

Jim was a self-made man that would do anything for anybody. He was a member of the Presbyterian Church since 1975 where he served as a deacon for six years. He was also a member of the Masons and the Elks Lodge.

Jim is preceded in death by his wife Effie Welch, his parents, one sister, Minnie Welch, and an infant daughter Vicki Lynn Welch
