NEWTON, Kan. -- Vina "Wilma" Wedel, 92, died on Monday, April 12, 2010, at the Asbury Greenhouse.

She was born Aug. 30, 1917, in Tuttle to Mae (McMahon) and William Cowan. Her family was raised in the Tahlequah area and she moved to Kansas in the mid-'40s. Wilma worked at Boeing during the war era, prior to her marriage to Robert. Wilma married Robert J. Wedel on Dec. 19, 1954, in Wichita, Kan. He died on Sept. 3, 1995. After they married, they worked at Sewer Kinder Manufacturing for the manufacturing of trailer homes. She later was employed by JCPenney's in Newton, until her retirement. She was a member of Trinity Heights United Methodist Church in Newton.

Wilma is survived by many loving nieces and nephews, who will dearly miss her. Preceding her in death were her parents, and three brothers, Roy, Lester Alvin and Vernon Cowan and two sisters, Mina Blaylock and Ruth Cowan.

Visitation is Tuesday, April, 13, 2010, 2-9 p.m. at Broadway Colonial Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at Trinity United Methodist Church at 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 14,  2010. Chaplain Bill Eichelberger and Rev. Lourena Dunn will preside. Burial will be at Restlawn Gardens of Memory, Newton, Kan.

Memorials may be made to Trinity Heights United Methodist Church, Asbury Park and Good Shepard Hospice, care of Broadway Colonial Funeral Home, 120 E. Broadway, Newton, Kan. 67114. Friends may sign the book online at www.broadwaycolianalfh.com.
