Timothy D. Ward

Timothy D. Ward
July 30, 1953 ~ Jan 3, 2024

Timothy D. Ward, 70, died after a cascade of chronic lung and heart problems at his home in Norman during the early hours of Wednesday, Jan 3, 2024.

Tim, or Coach, a family nickname during his youth, was born to L.D. and Floy (Susie) Ward in El Reno on July 30, 1953. He started school in Grants, NM, and graduated from Moore High School in 1971, He then earned a bachelor’s degree in journalism from the University of Central Oklahoma and would follow his father and brother, both of whom were veterans of various Oklahoma newspapers, in the newspaper business. His first byline was in the Edmond Sun.

But his journalism career ended when he followed higher paychecks into the apparel and the food processing industries in Oklahoma City. He later would become an authority in food processing safety and sanitation primarily in Tennessee and Arkansas.

Tim was an avid golfer and made sets of custom-made clubs for his favorite brother who looked great but never improved with the hand-crafted clubs. On the other hand, Tim carded a hole in one on a Tennessee club course before retiring.

Tim was preceded in death by his father and mother and a sister, Carolyn, who died at birth. He is survived by his brother, Lance, of Norman and his wife, Sharon, who was his babysitter when Tim was six then grew closer over time to share a love closer than a best sister. He also is survived by two nieces, Christine Waller and her husband, John, of Oklahoma City and Tamara Spaulding and her husband, Mike, of Goldsby. He was Uncle Tim to a multitude of loving littles.

He had a brilliant mind filled with details of almost everything with which he could discuss or debate relentlessly with fact or fiction to ultimately prevail.

A memorial barbecue is anticipated in warmer weather.
