The world lost a little of its color when David Neal Waller, loving father, husband, and friend, passed away peacefully on April 10th, 2026, at his home in McLoud, Oklahoma, surrounded by family.
David was born on May 10th, 1949, in Oklahoma City to Norwood “Smokey” Waller and Bobbie Waller Hornsby. He grew up in Jones, Oklahoma, where he graduated from Jones High School and was a proud and active member of the FFA. His boyhood was spent living the life of a true country kid — hunting, fishing, and cooling off with the occasional dip in a nearby river. He discovered early on that he had a natural gift for raising livestock, a talent that became both a passion and a successful business. Many of the hogs he raised were shown at the state fair, something he took great pride in.
In 1968, shortly after graduating high school, David joined the United States Army. He embraced military life with dedication and excelled in his duties. His performance earned him acceptance into the Military Police, and he was deployed to Vietnam, with additional service in Germany. He served with integrity and honor, and at the end of his tour, he received an honorable discharge.
Upon returning home, David worked at Wonder Bread Bakery while continuing to sell livestock on the side — the work he truly loved. Before long, livestock became his full-time livelihood, and once again his natural skill proved both fulfilling and successful.
In 1973, David met Carol Chambers, and the two later married. Dave and Carol remained devoted partners for 52 years, building a life grounded in loyalty, humor, and shared strength.
David is survived by his sister Laura Lynn Cleveland and her husband Chris; his children Cherry Chassan and husband Jordan, Ilan Waller and wife Kara; stepdaughter Toni Lynn McQuin and husband Matt; and stepson Mark Nelson. He is also survived by his grandchildren: Ilan Hunter Waller and wife Natalie, Faith Waller, Kaylen Waller, Matthew McQuin and wife Ashley, Chad McQuin and fiancée Cloie, Candy Frunk, Jill Bollman, Jetta Santino and husband Cory, and Shea Nelson; as well as 10 great grandchildren who brought him endless joy.
He is preceded in death by his brothers Mike and Rodney, and his stepdaughter Leisa Kim Bollman.
The legacy David leaves behind is one of strength, friendship, and a deep appreciation for the simple joys of life. His memory will continue to bring smiles to all who were fortunate enough to know him.
