Wayne Horace Wallace

Wayne Horace Wallace
July 8, 1949 ~ March 9, 2026

Wayne Wallace, born July 8, 1949, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Monday, March 9, 2026, peacefully and surrounded by his immediate family. He was 76 years old.

Wayne lived a life full of adventure, love, family, and a constant search for the next quest. Born and raised in Bartlesville, Oklahoma, he graduated from Bartlesville College High School in 1967. In his younger years, Wayne developed a love for motorcycles and motocross, always drawn to the thrill of the outdoors and the freedom of the open road.

In 1974, Wayne welcomed his son, Christopher Michael Wayne Wallace, who quickly became his pride and joy. In 1983, Wayne married the love of his life, Sherrie, and together with her daughter, Shanin, their family was complete. Wayne and Sherrie shared over four decades side by side in life and work, building a partnership rooted in love, loyalty, and adventure.

Wayne was a respected leader in business and took great pride in being self-employed, doing things “his way.” Over the years he operated several small auto paint and body shops throughout the Bartlesville area. In 1993, he co-founded Coachworks Paint & Body with James Vandagriff, a business that served Bartlesville and the surrounding communities for many years. Wayne operated Coachworks until his retirement in 2018. His talent, integrity, and dedication made him one of the best in the industry, and he mentored and employed many along the way. Upon his retirement, DeJay White—whom Wayne thought of as another son—continued the business and carried on the legacy Wayne built.

Wayne and Sherrie raised their family in Dewey, Oklahoma, where life was always full of activity. Snow skiing became a favorite family tradition, taking them to mountains across the country. When the snow melted, their adventures continued with four-wheelers, camping trips, boating, and fishing. Wayne loved being on the water—even though he didn’t like killing the fish. With a camper packed and the season calling, there was rarely anything that could keep Wayne still for long.

When their son joined the military at a young age, Wayne and Sherrie gained even more reasons to travel, making trips across the country from coast to coast to visit him. Through it all, Wayne often reflected with gratitude, saying, “I’ve had the BEST life.”

Even through health challenges later in life, Wayne never slowed down. He truly fought the good fight and continued pursuing the things he loved. After retirement, Wayne and Sherrie kept traveling and exploring, taking side-by-side trips and enjoying the outdoors together. Wayne also developed a passion for firearms and competition shooting.

Music was another constant in Wayne’s life. He always had a guitar nearby, often playing daily to center himself. Over the years he collected many guitars, wanting to be sure his son and grandchildren always had one within reach in case inspiration struck. Music was woven into the rhythm of his everyday life.

Wayne was known for his patience, kindness, and generosity. He had a tender heart and a deep love for his family—and for the many pets his wife brought home over the years. Grass was never allowed to grow under his feet; there was simply too much life to live.

He is survived by his loving wife, Sherrie; his son Chris Wallace and wife; his daughter Shanin Ford and husband; his grandchildren Chance Cain, Chelsie Cain, Tyler Wallace, and Megan Wallace; and two great-grandsons, Jonathan Cain and Walker Wallace. He is also survived by his sister Patty Steinau and husband Ed, his niece Nancy Moody, his great-niece Whitney Hawkins and husband, and many other cousins, nieces, nephews, and dear friends who loved him.

Wayne was preceded in death by his father, Wayne Wallace, and his mother, Clara Jean Harris, his beloved Granny, Edna Brooks, Paul “Gabe” and Helen Gable, who lovingly raised Wayne and his sister, as well as several cherished aunts and uncles.

Wayne was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and “Papa.” Our family could not have had a better one. He will be missed every day, and the memories he created will live on forever in the hearts of all who loved him.
