Emma Belle (Scott) Vitty

March 16, 1925 ~ April 12, 2009

Emma B. Vitty, 84, of Perrysburg passed away Sunday, April 12, 2009 in her home surrounded by her loving family. She was born on March 16, 1925 to Coming "Bob" and Carrie (Alexander) Scott in Stilwell, OK, where she attended Marietta School. In the third grade, she attended Dwight Mission Boarding School until her high school years where she attended and graduated from Chilocco Indian School.

Emma was a riveter with Boeing Aircraft and worked on the first plane to drop a bomb during WWII. She entered the nursing program at Northeastern State in Tahlequah, OK where as a Cadet Corps nurse she served during WWII. She worked in Alabama at the Prattville General Hospital, the Baptist Hospital, the Montgomery VA Hospital and Fort Dix Army Hospital in NJ. She retired after 45 years of nursing. Emma received her Bachelor of Science degree in Health Arts in 1986 at the age of 64, from the College of St. Francis in Joliet, IL.

She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Prattville, AL and the Montgomery, AL Alcazar Shrine - Daughters of the Nile.

She is survived by her daughters Jennie (Matt) Vitty-Rogers of Marietta, GA and Laura Vitty (Dr. David A.) Weaver of Perrysburg sisters Peggy Williamson of Tahlequah, OK and Polly Scraper of Stilwell, OK and a host of cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Emma was preceded in death by her parents, brothers George, Joe, John and Dan Scott and sisters Sally Hogshooter, Elsie Hummingbird, and Nancy Scott.

Friends will be received from 4-6 P.M. on Tuesday, April 14, 2009, at the Witzler-Shank Funeral Home, Perrysburg (419-874-3133). Funeral services will begin at 6 P.M. and burial will be private. Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider Hospice of Northwest Ohio or First United Methodist Church in Prattville, AL.
