Sammie Jack “Snow” Vann

Sammie Jack “Snow” Vann
April 26, 1960 ~ May 1, 2022

Sammie “Snow” Jack Vann was born on April 26, 1960, to the late Dutch and Edith (Sawney) Vann and passed from this life to his forever home on May 1, 2022, at Northeastern Health System Hospital in Tahlequah, Oklahoma.

He was preceded in death by both parents: Dutch and Edith Vann; two brothers: David, and Eugene Vann; and two brothers-in-law: Delmar Watie, and Joe Scott.

Sammie was known as Snow, he was a Cherokee speaker and a hard-working man who did it all; from factory work, catching chickens, to a Volunteer Cherokee Nation Firefighter, and mechanic. He loved to spend time outdoors hunting, fishing, gardening, and driving around. He hardly ever stayed home; his mom would always call him a roadrunner. He would always take care of his elders making sure they did not go without wild onion, mushroom, polk salad, water crest, and kanuchi. When he was home, he liked to be reading a book, watching tv, or talking to his friends and giving them a hard time. He would always try and make you laugh and always had to have the last word.

His favorite sayings were “what did I say” (in Cherokee), “RS”, “Jokes”, and every conversation on the phone would end with a “smell you later, I already smell ya”.

If you were his friend, he would say “stick ya later”. Just to make sure he got the last laugh.

Snow would do anything for anyone, there was never a person he didn’t meet that were not friends with him afterwards. He had many amazing friends and family that he loved and made sure they knew he was always there when they needed him.

Snow leaves behind his wife of 30 years: Mae Vann; his daughter and son: Makeyla, and Snow Vann all of the home; four sisters and family: Dora Mae Watie, Reba and Bob Jones, Betty Sue, and Brenda Vann all of Stilwell; one brother: Ronnie and wife Marta Vann of Welling, Oklahoma. Also, several nieces and nephews; great nieces and nephews, and great-great nieces and nephews, and numerous friends.

Funeral Service was held 1:00 PM, Friday, May 6, 2022 at the Roberts-Reed-Culver Chapel Funeral Home, Stilwell, OK.
