LaRue "Rue" Evans (Banks) Ulrich

LaRue "Rue" Evans (Banks) Ulrich
March 30, 1937 ~ September 02, 2022

LaRue "Rue" Evans (Banks) Ulrich was born in Oxford, Kansas, the second of two born to Benjamin Banks and Maudine Evans Banks.

Rue graduated from Oxford High School and Phillips University in Enid, OK, and excelled academically in both schools. She studied music and education at Phillips University, where she obtained her Bachelor of Arts in 1959. Rue was classically trained in music and was multi-instrumental. She played cello in the Enid Phillips Symphony Orchestra and was also musically competent in piano, cornet and recorder. Rue, also interested in how musical instruments worked, built the family harpsichord and electric church organ.

Rue married Eugene Joseph Ulrich, her "favorite" former music professor and raised three children in Enid, OK. Rue and Eugene divorced later in life but remained lifelong, close, friends.

Rue worked in early childhood education at University Place Christian Church in Enid early in her working career and later went on to clerk for the Frisco Burlington Northern Santa Fe railroad for 22 years.

Rue was physically active throughout her life and as a young woman enjoyed tennis, once winning a municipal tennis tournament; intramural basketball; coaching girls basketball; jogging; yoga; and earned a presidential fitness award. She developed an early interest in carpentry and construction and built the family summer cabin in Grand Chain, Illinois.

Later in life Rue resided in St. Louis, MO, where she enjoyed remodeling/refurbishing old homes, attending the symphony, bird-watching and animals.

Rue is preceded in death by her parents and sister Benette Rhoades, of Amarillo TX., and Eugene Ulrich. She is survived by her three children, Burton Ulrich of Paducah, KY, Monte Ulrich of Tulsa, OK, and Jill Ulrich of Tulsa, OK; three grandchildren, Nicole Ulrich Arnold, Jana Boyd, and Melanie Schrieber; four great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Rue never met a stranger and will be missed by all who knew and loved her.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Animal Welfare organizations or Alzheimer's/Dementia research or plant a tree for Rue in nature.
