George Russell Turvey

March 11, 1928 ~ June 23, 2024

A celebration of life for George Russell Turvey, age 96, of Stillwater, was held Thursday, June 27 at 1:30 p.m. at the Nardin Methodist Church. George passed away peacefully in his sleep on Sunday, June 23, 2024.

George was born March 11, 1928, in Blackwell, the son of Harold and Grace Turvey. On August 22, 1954, he married the love of his life, Tonya Nell Naylor.

George graduated from Blackwell High School and later from Oklahoma A&M. George owned his own meat processing plant, played tennis, danced, and raised quarter horses. He enjoyed teaching Sunday School at First Baptist Church, Marietta, to five-year-olds for many years; the kids lovingly called him Mr. George.

George served in the United States Army in the Korean War.

He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Tonya; son, Mark Turvey and wife Renee; daughter, Susan Fisher and husband Brit; daughter Stacia Enns and husband Doug; grandchildren, Autumn Gwin, Brady Fisher, Marcy Fisher, Riley Enns, and Carly Enns; and great-grandchildren, Grace, Emily and Jacob Gwin. George is also survived by his sister, Carol Sjoberg.

He was preceded in death by grandson Justin Turvey. Also preceding him in death are siblings Bill Turvey, Alice Anderson, and Allen Turvey.

In lieu of flowers, please make donations to your local church children's ministry as George loved children and invested many years teaching children about the love of Jesus.

Included in this obituary was a photo of Mr. Turvey.
