Virgil Warren “Sonny” Turner, 78, of Blanchard, died Thursday, September 15, 2016 in Norman. The son of Virgil Warren Turner and Wilma M. (Wells) Turner, he was born October 19, 1937 in Oklahoma City.

Sonny married Joan Hubbard on February 27, 1960 in Oklahoma City. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force and attended the First United Methodist Church in Blanchard. Sonny worked as a civil engineer for Tinker Air Force Base and retired in 2000 after 36 years of service. In his spare time, Sonny enjoyed reading western novels, playing golf, working crossword puzzles, and team roping. He loved being outdoors and spent countless hours fishing and hunting. His greatest enjoyment came from spending time with his family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a grandson, Michael Darin Johnson; a son-in-law, Shannon Jude Berg, and a sister, Joyce Butler.

Sonny is survived by his wife of 56 years, Joan Turner, of Blanchard; one daughter, Kellie Berg of Slaughterville; one son, Darin Don Turner of Gainesville, Texas; and many other loved ones and friends.

Funeral service will be held at 2:00 P.M., Monday, September 19, 2016 at the Eisenhour Funeral Home Chapel in Blanchard. Arrangements are under the direction of Eisenhour Funeral Home in Blanchard. Online obituary and guestbook are available at www.eisenhourfh.comm.
