Georgia Mae (Gailey) Turner

Georgia Mae (Gailey) Turner
May 15, 1937 ~ June 4, 2023

Georgia Mae (Gailey) Turner, age 86, joined loved ones in Heaven on Sunday, June 4, 2023 following an extended illness. Georgia was born in Stella, MO to Ilus Homer and Evlyan Anthony “Mom” (Dabbs) Gailey on May 15, 1937 and was raised on their farm in rural Missouri. At age 14, she married her lifelong love, Robert Leroy Turner, on July 18, 1951 in Benton County, Arkansas. They were married for 691⁄2 years until Robert passed in 2021. To their union, two sons were born, John and Richard. They moved to Miami, OK after John was born. They were longtime faithful members of the Miami Church of Christ.

Georgia worked as a supervisor at Glenn Berry Manufacturing and then at Eagle Picher Industries in her earlier working years. She then obtained her cosmetology license and operated her own beauty salon in addition to working at the Wonder Bread Store in Miami. She continued to work part-time in her beauty salon until a stroke in June, 2017 forced her retirement. Georgia also wore several hats in her sideline businesses over the years, including cake baking, Mary Kay, Avon, and a resale clothing store.

Georgia was known as a loving, compassionate Christian woman, who loved her family and friends with all her heart. She was a hard worker who also enjoyed golfing, sewing, handicrafts, coffee, playing cards and was known for her famous culinary skills, especially her famous hot rolls, peanut butter balls, and strawberry shortcake (no one ever went hungry at the Turner home).

Georgia is survived by her sister, Patsy Joan “Jo” Whitsett, her son and daughter-in-law, Richard and Dee Turner of Ponca City, OK, her daughter-in-law, Patty Turner of Yucca Valley, CA; granddaughter, Cora Pryor of Miami, OK; granddaughter, Meredith Willis of Ponca City, OK; granddaughter and spouse, Jennifer and Jason Rollins of Guleph, ON; granddaughter, Heather Sigafose of Hubert, NC; and 8 great-grandchildren: Jaymee, Caitlyn, Meghan, Raven, Seth, Ally, Madison, and Emelia. Our family is immensely grateful for friends and church family who visited Robert and Georgia over their later years and sent cards to Georgia after she went into nursing care.

Georgia was preceded in death by her spouse, Robert, her parents, son John Turner, granddaughter Amy Jo Turner, great-grandchildren Rebecca Lee Morgan and Robert Cole Morgan, and siblings, Daniel Kenneth Jones, Bertha Louise Farley, Betty Haddock, Ernest Dean “Jack” Jones, William Homer Gailey, Bonnie Dean Lewis, and Donna Jean Barnett.

Cremation has been effected through Stittsworth Funeral Home in Enid, OK. A joint celebration of Robert and Georgia’s lives is being scheduled. In their memory, contributions may be made to the Miami Church of Christ, 124 B St NW, Miami, OK 74354 or a charity of your choice.
