Bennie Turn

Bennie Turn
August 26, 1930 ~ January 9, 2021

Bennie Turn was born in Stilwell, Oklahoma on August 26, 1930, to Alex Turn and Mary England Stayathome, and passed away on January 9, 2021 in Stilwell, Oklahoma.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Alex Turn and Mary England Stayathome, 3 brothers, Lacy Hogner, Donald Turn, and Webster Stayathome and 1 sister, Kathryn Fourkiller and a special nephew, Damon Stayathome.

Ben attended grade school at West Peavine School. When he was old enough to enlist in the military, he chose to enlist in the United States Air Force. His tour of duty included stationed in Germany. His decorations and citations were the National Defense Service Medal, Army Occupational Medal, (Germany) and Good Conduct Medal. His rank was A/3C when he was discharged on July 30, 1956.

Ben was a member of the Bidding Creek Baptist Church and attended while his health permitted. He had a cassette player that he would play and listened to his tapes that had Cherokee Singing.

He was employed at many places, including Stilwell Foods, Chicken processing plants and various odd and end jobs.

Ben enjoyed being a "Shade Tree" Mechanic, working on his vehicles, playing bingo, watching sports on TV and going fishing. He was very proud of his old brown station wagon that was used in the Wilma Mankiller movie, "Cherokee Word for Water."

Bennie is survived by 1 brother, Archie Stayathome, and 2 sisters ; Wanda Hudson and Linda Lindsey (Mark) all of Stilwell, Oklahoma. He is also survived by 2 very special nieces, Kimmy Teehee and Krsiti Campbell of Stilwell, Oklahoma as well as several nieces, nephews and other relatives.
