Dr. Denise Lynne Travis, age 63 of Guthrie, Oklahoma passed away July 15, 2019 in Guthrie. Denise was born on April 11, 1956 in LaRochelle, France to Robert and Monta Lou (Breedlove) Trosper.
Denise graduated from Lawton Eisenhower High School in 1974. She was a National Merit Scholar and attended the University of Oklahoma where she graduated with her Bachelor of Science degree in Zoology. Denise then attended Oklahoma State University and graduated with her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degree in 1988. Soon after she finished school at Oklahoma State, she married Stephen Travis in Oklahoma City on April 15, 1988.
Denise moved to Guthrie from Oklahoma City in 1999. She was a veterinarian at Guthrie Pet Hospital. Denise was a Charter Member of Friends of Guthrie Animals (FOGAS), showed whippets, and was a long-time member of the Oklahoma City and American Kennel Clubs. Her love for animals was immense and she was the best advocate an animal could have.
Denise was a member of Community Church. She enjoyed quilting, gardening, and showing her animals.
Survivors include her husband Dr. Stephen Travis of the home, brother Robert Trosper and wife Janet of Anchorage, Alaska, sister Amy Elliot and husband Doug of Norman, father-in-law Rex Travis and wife Pat of Oklahoma City, brother-in-law Michael Travis and wife Lety of Harlingen, Texas, sister-in-law Margaret Travis-Crane and husband David of Oklahoma City, sister-in-law Mary Travis of Oklahoma City, and brother-in-law Chris Travis and wife Brandi of Oklahoma City. Denise is also survived by a host of very special friends.
Memorial services will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Saturday, July 20, 2019 at Community Church with Pastor Bill Williams officiating.
Services are under direction of Hayes Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials be made to the Denise Travis, DVM Memorial Scholarship Fund (osugiving.com/denise-travis) or mailed to 2700 N. Hiawassee Road, Guthrie, OK 73044.
