Betty Jane Townsend

January 5, 1923 ~ January 6, 2005

Graveside services will be held at Greenlawn Memorial Park, 3700 River Blvd., on Thursday, January 13, 2005, at 1:00 p.m., for Betty Jane Townsend who passed away peacefully at home January 6th. Father Mark Lawrence will officiate.

Jane was born in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma to Percy and Lenore Robinson. She was one of eight children. In 1940 she married Kim Townsend and together they raised two daughters, Connie and Sharon. They moved to California in 1942. The family resided in Bakersfield since 1945. After her daughters were married, she completed her education. She attended Bakersfield Adult School and with great pride accepted her high school diploma in front of her family. She was an avid bowler and reader and loved doing crossword puzzles. She was never at a loss for words especially when it came to politics, as she was a proud Republican. Her interest in politics served her well in her career as an account clerk for the Kern County Elections Dept. which she retired from after 17 years. She enjoyed traveling to Hawaii, Catalina Island and New York City. She was a beloved Nana to her grandchildren who will keep her forever in their hearts.

Jane is survived by her sisters, Tommy, Gloria and Pat; her daughter and son-in-law, Sharon and Richard Fisher; grandchildren, Stephanie, Kasey and her husband, Rich Watson and Jeffrey; great grandchildren, Chase, Colbie, Ben, Joe and Lily; nieces, nephews and many friends and extended family. Her husband, Kim; her eldest daughter, Connie; her brothers, Mike, Orville, Ben and sister, Lucille, preceded her in death.

Visitation will be held Thursday, January 13th beginning at 10:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m., after which friends and famiy are invited to gather together for the procession to the gravesite.
